This system was reviewed and Certified by Silent PC Review!
The EPCN Streacom FC9 Fanless PC easily qualifies for SPCR Silent PC certification. In normal use, even at extremely high, extended loads, the system remains silent, with real SPL well under 10 dBA at any distance. It could be regarded as the first "0 dBA" PC SPCR has certified. - Mike Chin SPCR Check out the full review!

What are these Intel 2XX-Series Prime Motherboards and Kaby Lake CPUs?
200-Series Motherboards feature the H270, Z270, and B250 chipsets, as well as Intel's 7th Generation (Kaby Lake) Socket 1151 CPUs. H270, Z270, and B250 are also backwards compatible with 6th Generation (Skylake) Socket 1151 CPUs. Z170 motherboards also support the Kaby Lake 7th generation CPUs (forwards compatiblity). Z270 also features 24 lanes of PCIe 3.0 bus (up from 20 lanes with Z170) and greater official memory speed support (Max. DDR4-2400) when paired with a Kaby Lake CPU.
The Z270/Kaby Lake Upgrade Includes:
- H270/Z270 feature 20/24 lanes of PCIe 3.0 for greater M.2 support
- Improved Energy Efficiency
- Support for up to DDR4-2400 (Z170 officially included support for up to DDR4-2133)
- Continued Graphics Improvement
What Is A Socket 1151 PC?
Skylake was the technology used in 170-Series Motherboards. Socket 1151 CPUs (Intel’s consumer oriented CPUs) include Skylake, Kaby Lake, and Coffee Lake CPUs (but Coffee Lake CPUs require new motherboards). Several new features were included with the Kabylake and Skylake CPUs that weren't included with Socket 1150 (New Haswell) CPUs. These include:
Improved Graphics Support | Out of the box graphics performance (without the need for an added video card) has nearly doubled with Socket 1151 (Skylake) over Socket 1150 (Haswell and Broadwell). Socket 1151 also includes full 4K support at 60 fps and includes expanded support for DirectX 12, OpenGL 4.4, and Open CL 2.0.
64GB DDR4 Support | Socket 1150 CPUs maxed out at 32GB DDR3 RAM support. Socket 1151 allows for 64GB DDR4 RAM. So, if you are doing memory intensive work, you could probably benefit from using a greater amount of high performance RAM in your PC.
Expanded M.2 and U.2 support | Socket 1151 (Skylake) is capable of greater M.2 and U.2 support (Asus Z170 motherboards are all compatible with the Asus Hyper Kit necessary for lightning fast NVMe drive support).
Both Skylake and Kaby Lakes CPUs include these improvements. Kaby Lake offers improved speeds, and as well as additional bus lanes integrated into the CPU. Kaby Lake motherboards (2XX-series motherboards like the one featured in this system) also feature improved support for high-speed RAM.
Up and Coming Coffee Lake
Just released (and still being rolled out), Coffee Lake (Z370 and 8XXX series CPUs) feature all the same improvements mentioned above, but accept faster CPUs with up to 6-CORES. New Haswell, Skylake, and Kaby Lake all maxed out with 4-Core CPUs. However, Coffee Lake isn't not backwards compatible with Kaby Lake or Skylake, even though it incorporates the same features on its motherboards. If you are looking to the newest high-end, but consumer-oriented CPUs and don't mind paying a little more, we recommend looking at a Coffee Lake PC. On the other hand, Coffee Lake is still rolling out and as of the time of this writing, and currently does not include budget-oriented motherboard lines or value CPUs (Celeron and Pentium).
